Dr. Shameela Karmali's Professional Experience
Dr. Karmali has extensive experience in conceptualizing, developing, managing and leading health programs, many of which have required forging partnerships with government, private sector and civil society and sourcing new resources. Shamella has built capacities, leadership, managerial, evaluation and financial, in numerous programs and facilities in which she has been either directly involved or acted as a consultant (WHO, UNICEF, AKHS,SEHF, First Nations community, Primary Care Network)
Doctor Karmali has led in the design, implementation and/or evaluation of health care programs from primary health care and first-level referral health facilities and community based programs with focus on integrated health systems. She has been involved in depth needs assessment and business planning, budget setting, team building, partnering with local, provincial and national government and non governmental agencies, monitoring, evaluation, and significant internal and external dialogue
Dr. Karmali's strengths lie in policy development, strategic, innovative thinking and planning, fostering relationships and partnerships, writing proposals, accessing funds, and monitoring and evaluation. In the numerous leadership roles she has filled, she has worked with all levels of government and private sector organizations, from negotiating, lobbying and representing business concerns at high levels, to dialoguing, marketing and promotion at the community level.
